Good idea.  Lyx-code can certainly be used for algorithms, although one is free
to use other techniques.  Algorithms in the form of flow charts could be 
inserted
as graphichs, for example.  The writer might still want to use an "algorithm" 
float
rather than a "figure", because they want the "algorithm" caption.

Floats are very flexible.  I have some figures made up from clever use
of math & text characters instead of bitmaps, for example.
