Clicking on the grey box does not open a Cross-reference menu
as described (at least on my Windows XP system). It opens a Graphics
menu.
Then you have clicked on a figure float or so. Click on a grey box with the text prefix "Ref". If
this doesn't work, what's you LyX version?
