Dear Uwe

Here are a few things I missed earlier in the different manuals. Many are
quite minor but will improve the overall presentation.

Introduction

1.1 What is LyX?

[paragraph 9] . . .Section 4 in a different font from the one you used for
Section 1 ['from the one' is better here and avoids using 'what']

2 Navigating the Documentation

. . . Before you go ploughing into any of those files ['ploughing', not
'plowing']

Tutorial

2.2.1 Sections and Subsections

[after the five inserted lines]
. . . Change the fourth line to the Subsection environment as well. [adding
'to the' reads better]

3.1 Document Classes

[paragraph 3] . . . and page headings are just some of the ways journals'
typesettings differ . . . [apostrophe after 'journals' to indicate genitive
case]

User guide

2.2 Basic Editing Features

[paragraph 2 after menu list] . . . the Delete and Backspace keys also
function as the . . . ['function' plural]

3.5.2.5 Phantom Space
[footnote 5]There are also the commands \hphantom and \vphantom, but this is
too special . . . ['are' is more idiomatic here; 'this is too' - 'is' missing]

3.7.1 Font Types
[paragraph after description] . . . So one needs fewer font . . . ['needs' as
it is singular]

3.8.2.5 PDF
[end of paragraph 2] . . . So we recommend you use images . . . ['you' is more
idiomatic]

[final paragraph] . . . We recommend you use . . . ['you' is more idiomatic]

3.9.2 Hyphenation
[paragraph 3] . . . to prevent words or constructs from being hyphenated. . .
. hyphen “-” as a hyphenation possibility ['prevent something from being' is
the correct expression; 'a' is needed before hyphenation]

4.4.1 Image Formats
[final paragraph] Normally one can't convert a bitmap image into a scalable
one; however, the program Inkscape can convert a bitmap into a number of
scalable layers. We recommended you try this only with bitmaps which have a
small number of different colours. [New information for users]

4.5.2 Longtables
[Description] Caption: The first row is reset as a single column. ['as a
single' is the correct expression]

4.6 Floats
[paragraph 4]It is recommended you insert . . . ['you' is more idiomatic]

4.6.1.1 Figure Floats
[end of paragraph 2] . . . because, as LaTeX will reposition the floats in the
final document, it might not be “above” at all. [comma after 'because' and
comma rather than semi-colon after 'document']

5.1 Basic Math Editing
[paragraph 5] . . . outside the text in their own paragraph . . . ['in their
own' is the correct expression; as it says elsewhere that they are in
paragraph of their own, saying that here seems better - or is there a reason
for saying it is 'like' being in their own paragraph?]

5.1.9 Functions
[paragraph 1] . . . Standard mathematical practice is that functions . . .
[comma not needed]

5.3 Arrays and Multi-line Equations
[paragraph 2] . . . For example, the sequence “lcr” means that . . . ['lcr'
rather than 'lrc' to match example]

[paragraph 5 - after cases example] . . . will be inserted automatically in
the first column . . . ['in' or 'into' rather than just 'to']

5.4 Formula Numbering and Referencing
[paragraph 1] . . . The “#” denotes that the number . . . [comma not needed]

5.6.1 Typefaces
[paragraph 2] . . . Pressing Space within the box will set [comma not needed]

5.8.1 Enabling AMS-Support
[last sentence] . . . ensure that you have enabled AMS. ['ensure' is more
idiomatic]

6.1 Cross-References
[paragraph 6 - after cross-reference example] It is recommended you use . . .
['you' rather than 'to']

[paragraph 0] . . . of the referenced document part in the output is
automatically . . . [comma not needed]

6.5.2 Bibliography databases (BibTeX)
[paragraph 3] . . . In the Content drop box you can select whether to include
all the entries in the database in the document or just the cited references.
[I think this explains the use of the Content dropbox better].

[paragraph 6] . . . it is strongly recommended you read the manual ['you'
rather than 'to']

6.6.5 Index Entry Layout
[greyed out] . . . This is because xindy requires you to define . . .
['require someone to do something' is the correct expression]

6.6.6 Index Program
[last sentence] . . . consider using xindy. ['consider doing something' is the
correct expression]

6.10.1 TeX Code Boxes
[paragraph 3] . . . if you want to draw a frame around a word and are
therefore using . . . ['and' needed to link 'want to draw' and 'are therefore
using']

6.12 Spell Checking
[paragraph 1] . . . so it is recommended you use aspell. ['you' rather than
'to']

6.13 Thesaurus
[paragraph 2] . . . words that you can use as replacements. ['replacements'
plural to match 'words' - or you could say 'as a replacement' - either would
be correct as you normally have a choice with a thesaurus]

6.14 Change Tracking
[paragraph after icon list] . . . about the next change after the current
cursor position. ['after' rather than 'behind' when referred to a document]

A.1.13 Export
HTML (MS Word) . . . imported to MS Word; as a consequence of this formulas .
. . [semi-colon after 'Word', 'as a consequence' is the correct expression]

A.3 The View Menu
[paragraph 2] . . . default viewers are set by LyX when it is first . . .
['when' is more idiomatic in this case]
