We are talking about that in WYSIWYG editors, you have to take care about the spacing between item, and the spacing between item title and its description text. So in Word you might add a blank line when you need more space between items. In contrary this is not possible and you don't need to take care about the spacing - LaTeX calculates everything for you. (When you really want you can change the spacing of ALL your items with only one command at any time.)
