This is the case because Adobe reader always opens PDF files with write access. Otherprograms like LyX can then not change the PDF. If you have Windows, this should not happen because the LyX for Windows installer comes with a small program that automatically close and reopen the PDF.
What is your OS?

As alternative you can use the program "SumatraPDF" as viewer-
