Hello, I don't use a Mac, but Windows ...I my case the View function was moved to the Document menu item (it is also on the main toolbar).
The last documentation is available through the Help menu in LyX. If you have so many problems, I think your installation isn't complete. You can go there http://www.lyx.org/Download to find a complete and stable configuration for your system.
