I am a little mad about that and please forgive me if I am ranting.
It was unfair and unkind of you to unleash a tantrum on the LyX list.
Many (perhaps most) LyX installations do not need \print_spool_command
or any of the other print options, so they are commented out in lyxrc.
If your installation required some special configuration, perhaps your
energies would have been better directed to reading and following the
documentation, or even looking at the code, rather than firing off an
ill-tempered and unwarranted tirade.
No one has concealed that LyX is a work in progress. Understandably,
the authors have put more time and energy into the code than into
slick documentation. The version number of 0.12.0 is a pretty clear
declaration that the authors plan to do more work before release 1.0.
How about cutting them some slack?
If you really dislike Unix and prefer slick manuals to reading
configuration files and source code, you might be happier with
ms-windows and a PC word-processor.
