The magic configure options that did the trick for me with a HP-UX
system with gcc, perl5, xpm and xforms installed from depots in the
HP-UX Software Porting And Archive Centre:
 ./configure --prefix=/opt --with-extra-lib=/opt/xpm/lib/X11 \
 --with-extra-inc=/opt/xpm/include/X11 --with-extra-prefix=/opt/xforms

Then you need to have /opt/bin in your search path. The depots you can
find for example at http://hpux.tn.tudelft.nl. Don't use Netscape to
dowload the files, it just corrupts the files but use standard ftp from
hpux.tn.tudelft.nl instead.

I must congratulate the LyX-team for great work. It's a very rare
occasion that something actually compiles in HP-UX!

Best regards,
