xdvi + LaTeX preamble

I've a problem with xdvi: I can export a lyx file as DVI,
but when I type 'xdvi xxx.dvi' I get  something like 'file
doesn't begin with a preamble'. With 'File --> View DVI',
there's only the first page of about 15. What can I do?
