This strongly points to an end of line problem.
Where do the figures come from ?
If this is the problem, the simplest solution IMHO
is to use zip, extract with -a option
unzip -a
If you get into trouble with the nunber of figures, insert
a \clearpage at appropriate locations: same as \newpage, but clears
the buffer of floats.
