Dear LyX users and developers,

I'm using Linux and Lyx v.0.12.1pre8 but my problem existed with pre7 and
probably in previous versions:

If I type ^ (obtained with ^-space in my portuguese keyboard) under Tex
style, LyX is producing
\^{ }
in the .tex file but I think I would like it to make just
^
It seems that even in standard text it is producing a red ^ and therefore
the same
\^{ }

I don't think the problem is with my keyboard or with the portuguese
keyboard only, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure if there's any
situation (at least under Tex style) when a \^{ } would be useful, but I
haven't found any, so far. What do you say? Is there any way of obtaining
a plain ^ in Tex style? If there isn't, should I be asking the developers
to change the meaning of ^ under Tex style?

The only way I found to solve this problem was to produce a .tex file
(from LyX) and then make a 'sed' replacing all \^{ } with ^. It works, but
I really would like to be able to see the .ps file under LyX.

Nuno Guerra
