Hallo!
I don't know much about Latex (just was concerned with it for the last 3
weeks while working with LyX), so there might be a better solution:
I defined the document ( in layout|document ) to be single-column, and then
included every part of the text that should be two-columned in
\begin{multipage}..
\end{multipage}
carefully excluding the figures and tables. That worked for me.
