What version of LyX do you use?
What problems do you have with this?
If you use lyx-0.12.x (most probably) then the configuration file isn't
$HOME/.lyxrc, but $HOME/.lyx/lyxrc, if you use lyx-0.10.x (less probably)
then change to the last lyx version 0.12.1pre8 as we don't support lyx-0.10.x
anymore :)
