v1.0 on alpha fails with cannot map libforms.so.0.88

I'm trying to upgrade from v0.12 (which kept on crashing on tables) to
1.0, but
1.0 fails to run, with:

/sbin/loader: Fatal Error: cannot map libforms.so.0.88

any ideas?

This is on dec unix v4.0b (probably).

I'm running from the binary picked up from
ftp://ftp.via.ecp.fr/pub/lyx/bin/1.0.0/
