NON-expert answer but may give a clue....
When the citation field drops down you can put in the citation field
several citations separated by commas:
Jones97, Jones98, Smith53
to get [4,6,9] in the output. Whether a hyphen can be similarly inserted I
don't know but it might be worth a try.
