Escape chars in LaTeX

Hi

THis is maybe more a LaTeX question, but it's a short one so I hope
it's OK.

I have a program that inserts a postion of text directly into a LaTeX
dokument. But sometimes it breaks because there are characters with
special meanings (like &).

Does anyone know of a list of these characters, maybe an URL to a place
with this list?
