equation numbering by chapter?

Is it possible to do equation numbering according to chapter?

for example the equations in chapter 2 to be  numbered as
2.1, 2.2, etc...
the equations in chapter 3 to be
3.1, 3.2, etc...

and so on?

Also is it possible to do this for figures and tables?
