Which version of LyX? Prior versions (1.0.2 and I think 1.0.3) had problems
with misconfigured dvips setups (the default for most tetex installations
seems to be A4 paper, where Letter sized paper is most likely desired.

You can tell whether this is the problem by doing a "View Posctscript" and
printing the letter from ghostview. If you do this and it works correctly,
then you should either upgrade to LyX 1.0.4pre6 (get the RPM from my
ftp site: ftp://ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx) or fix your dvips config.ps file
to use Letter sized paper by default.
