  Please notice that the docbook template is to be used with the docbook
backend. The docbook backend doesn't work with latex and that is intended.

  Notice also that the docbook support is related with sgmltools v2.0

  You are mixing several term here. SGML is a metalanguage, linuxdoc and
docbook are two dtd (document type definition) defined with SGML.

  The option to export linuxdoc is available if you use the linuxdoc
layout, and from there you can use the sgml2... (rtf beeing one of the options).

  The same happens for docbook documents.

  The only reason the term SGML export was removed is because there are now
two alternatives that are SGML related.
