  Please not that Mandrake sometimes packages some preversions as if
they were the final versions.

  So the version that you have as lyx-1.0.4 is actually lyx-1.0.4pre?
This has been reported to the list and I can confirme it because of the
error you had...

  Again that is a problem that has been solved in the real 1.0.4
LyX searchs for sgmltools executable instaled in your path, as it should...

  Again this is solvable upgrading you version.
  Search for http://www.lyx.org where rpm version are available, both
source and binary...
