Well, more important is to upgrade HP-UX 9.0 to at least 10.20 with all
patches. According to HP only properly patced HP-UX 10.20 or 11.0 will
survive Y2K. 

After that it is easy to fetch and install gcc, binutils, xpm and xforms
and teTeX in the "HP-UX rpm-format" from for example 
        http://hpux.dsi.unimi.it/
and compile LyX yourself. You may have to include the xforms- and
xpm-paths with an option in the configure-script but otherwise
compiling should go easily.
