I went to the xforms site and downloaded another version:
bxform-088-glibc2.1.tgz
I think before I had: bxform-088.tgz (it was not clear which one to get,
so I got the "generic" one before)
After that, xforms and lyx both installed fine.
So if anyone has such a problem again, check that you have the right
version of xforms (in case of redhat 6.1, get bxform-088-glibc2.1.tgz)
