I am new to LyX (and honestly new to LaTeX too) and have been reading the
mail list archive on the web site. Someone kindly posted info on a
contributed class for a thesis (I'm writing a thesis...just what I'm
looking for!). I've downloaded it and looked through it, but I can't seem
to get the new class to work correctly.

I have copied the thesis.layout file to the layout directoy, the
thesis-template.lyx file to the templates directory and the thesis.cls
file to the .tex directory (I just guessed where to put them :). I
couldn't find where to put the thesis.sty file. However when I try to
open a new file based on the template I get the following error:

LyX: Unknown textclass `thesis' [around line 4 of file
~/Lyx/lyx-1.0.3/lib/templates/CU-Thesis-Template.lyx]

It appears the authors are putting more info on creating (or adding) your
own document classes to the documentation...but I need the info now.

Sorry for the basic question and thanks for any help!
Tracy
