DVI is made by TeX. Figures are in Postscript. kdvi doesn't know how to display
Postscript. If you export the document in Postscript and view it, you will see
the figures.
N.B. The Postscript version is considerably larger than the DVI, even without
figures. This is, I believe, because it contains Postscript versions of TeX
fonts, which aren't in the DVI because DVI knows them.
