Hi e-Lyxers

I administer a site with about a dozen Star office users. I want to
install Lyx for them for 2 reasons:

       1. I need to be able to mail-merge from postgresql into documents which
they write, format and send them to a printer. This is
easy with a latex file, but using a star office document
          is much more difficult.

I don't think that telling them to save the documents as text
is reasonable because it is very error prone. I'd much rather
just scan the lyx file or call a batch program to convert
the lyx to latex and use that.

       2. Star Office isn't all that robust.

In summary, I want them to compose a document in lyx and save it. They then
click on my application which will do the data base insertion stuff after
having converted the lyx file to latex.

Perhaps, I could work with the lyx file directly, but I don't know the
format and am more familiar with Latex. Even if I worked with the lyx
file, I'd still need the lyx2latex program at the end to convert the file
for printing.

Any opinions or suggestions would be welcome.

Cheers,
Geoff Russell
