To get nice pdf files, you have to use postscipt fonts, which is not
LaTeX defaults. There two main choices:
- use postscript versions of TeX cm/ec fonts.
- use a common ps font like times, but then you get problems with
maths (unless you have the commercial mathtimes font).
Explaining how to actually do that is beyond my knowledge (I never did
it myself), but I think this has already been explained on this list.
