I think I figured it out.  It appears to be a shell problem.  When I switch
from the bash shell to csh, everything works fine.  Switch back to bash and
the same type of errors pop up.  Why is bash having a problem with TeX?
Anybody ever had problems with bash and TeX? Any solutions?
