Yes, but, one doesn't get [1,2], but rather [1][2].
Likewise, one gets [1][2][3] instead of [1-3].

I'm using package{natbib}, so the actual citations are formatted
differently, but the content is the same.

So this complaint of mine may vanish in the next release ...
