Here is what I get when I run with "-dbg init":

Setting debug level to init
Debugging `init' (Program initialisation)
Initializing LyXGUI...
illegal instruction

When I look at the kernel log, there is also the following line coincident with running lyx:

alpha_fp_emul: Invalid FP insn 0x200 at 0x20000cf546c

I guess we would need more information to know where the problem
happens. For example, what happens when you run with "-dbg init"?
