First, do you have right language selected in Layout/Document?
It is LaTeX that does the hyphenation. Certainly LaTeX hyphenation is not
perfect, but it should be very good nevertheless -- at least good enough
that you can easily use ctrl-"-" to correct hyphenation, if there happens
to be a word hyphenated wrong. So if you have the right language selected
and still LaTeX does it very wrong, there's probably something weird
going on. Maybe you should upgrade you TeX distribution, maybe your
version is corrupted somehow.
