Yes, I'm embarassed, it was quite stupid. After sending the
outputs of gdb to the list (sorry!), while desperately browsing through
the documentation, I noticed the "-debug" switch. So I launched lyx with
"-debug 5" and got the following message, just before the crash:
In SetFont [fonts.c 276] can't load
-*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-p-*-*-*
So I checked my system with xfontsel and found out that I had no
helvetica on it. I installed XFree86-75dpi-fonts and now it works fine.
For the future: shouldn't rpm ask for a fonts package at install
time, during dependency checks?
