Did you install MacTeX already? If you did it after installing LyX you have to reconfigure LyX. If this doesn't help you have to check the protocol of the last configure run. You may do so with enabling the messages in View->Messages and check the output. Alternatively you may check the contents of the configure.log file. To find this file you may open the Terminal app and type $ mdfind -name configure.log This should print something like /Users/stephan/Library/Application Support/LyX-2.1/configure.log This file contains the protocol of the script LyX is using to check for the availability of the programs you've installed to produce the final output - including the pdf files.
