Yes, in the example given two words are hyphenated to make
the text fit to the margins. With justification there should be
no hyphenation. I attach the same paragraph but produced
by the Scribus program. There are no hyphenations because
the word spaces are adjusted to fit the margins.
I also attach a screen shot of the relevant Lyx box. If I highlight
a paragraph and choose "Justified", it will not keep the choice
but reverts to Default. If I do not highlight anything, then choose
"Justified", it will keep the setting, but the result of the pdflatex
output is unchanged.
Am I misunderstanding this? Is it possible that the choice only
affects the Lyx text?

The work that I am writing can be done using the Scribus program,
but it is so much easier done with Lyx.
