If you define some \newcommands like \R for real numbers, it is no longer that
ugly. See the attached file for an example.
(Although a nice WYSIWYM symbol would be a real advantage) 

Q. to the developers: How about a possibility for the user to define an "external" 
symbol
(e.g. a .xpm file to use) for his/her math-macro? May be we could have a
directory ~.lyx/symbols where one puts them in and offer the optional argument
"symbol-file" to M-x math-macro.
