I have seen this sign in my documents that I have prepared in the older version of LyX but opened in a newer version. I can confirm this sign appear in LyX documents with classes other than beamer. I have thought that this has something to do with the encoding of "end of paragraph" character and maybe related to Windows. Not sure. Would like to hear the actual meaning.
