Perhaps I'm asking the wrong question. Figures are numbered sequentially in the document, regardless of in which chapter they are located. So, why aren't tables numbered the same way? Looking at the list-of-tables.pdf I attached to my initial post we see that the five tables are in three chapters and numbered within each chapter, not sequentially as are the figures. Rich
