You don't need to add space if you don't need it.
Instead, you need to specify the hyphenation points on the DNA sequences
(i.e. places in which the word can be broken) using ctrl+<minus key>
For example, place a hyphenation point every 5 bp.
(the LyX display will be ACCTG-ACTTA-CAGGT-...)
