I'm a new Lyx user ( version 1.1.6 from Mandrake 8.0 )and when I use
the article layout, I seem to get the margins to act correctly.

The article layout has 1.5" left and right margins when I would really
like only 1" margins.

In the User Guide, I found:

setlength{hoffset}{-0.5 in}

setlength{voffset}{-0.5 in}

so I did Layout -> LaTeX Preable, and entered the text as
shown. When I use C-t to display the postscript, I get 2 of the
dreaded error boxes.

LaTeX Error: Missing \begin{document}.
              s
   etlength{voffset}{-0.5 in}
You're in trouble here. Try typing <return> to proceed.
If that doesn't work, type X <return> to quit.

I also have tried

\setlength{hoffset}{-0.5 in} - that gets the error dialog to not look
as oddly but still does not help.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,
Chris
