I did just that and backup folder is rendered in the window:

Now, after clicking OK, Dropbox pops up a warning telling me the file
is going to be moved from the original folder. Moving back to no
backup folder defined... Scary!

This message seems to be generated by LyX, and I suspect it occurs
either because
C:/Users/jcredberry/Dropbox/Sulan/Papers/DCHT/DCHT_2020_v3.lyx is locked
or write protected or because somehow the directory is temporarily
unavailable.
A little Googling turned up at least one report of Dropbox blocking
access to files on a Win 10 PC that may or may not have been caused by a
Win 10 update (in February). If you bump into this problem again, you
might check the Dropbox icon in the system tray and see if it indicates
that Dropbox is syncing. If so, that might be interfering with LyX
writing the modified file.
