Unfortunately, there is no built-in editor, so I tend to create the images in TikZ Editor <https://github.com/fredokun/TikZ-Editor> (or just my favorite text editor), save the .tex file, and then use Insert -> Child Document -> Input. Many of the images for this article <https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0306454917304991> took the aforementioned approach when preparing the manuscript in LyX. Hope this helps, Joel
