apa.layout and apa.cls and \caption

Looking at the apa.cls documentation, it clains to have a \caption
command.  But apa.layout indicates this is "Senseless", and the
command generates errors.

Anyone know what is the real story?

Anyone know what the 'Right Way' to do a caption is in apa.cls?
