If you immediately write down what you were doing when the crash occurred, that would help quite a lot. If you can run LyX from a terminal, you may get some kind of backtrace, which could also help. Are you running any background tools, like clipboard managers or anything like that?

I use Yoink in the background. I think this is what you called a clipboard 
manager, isn’t it.
I am not on Mac, so I do not know.
For the troubleshooting, I will leave it tuned off for a while.

Where can I find instructions for running LyX from a terminal and how to access 
the backtrace. I will be happy to try it.
Anyone on OSX who can explain how to do this?
