Dear LyX developers,

I ran into an interaction between the current versions of babel and varioref.

The LaTeX developers confirmed that this is a known issue (#2112) and suggested the temporary workaround

\providecommand\extrasenglish{}

before loading varioref.

This works perfectly in normal LaTeX documents.

However, in LyX the exported .tex file contains

\usepackage{varioref}

before the user preamble, so the workaround cannot be inserted early enough.

I also noticed that my document does not explicitly request varioref (\use_refstyle 0, \use_formatted_ref 0, no vref references).

Is there a reason why LyX still exports \usepackage{varioref}?

Is there a recommended way to inject code before automatically generated package loading?

I'm working with

LuaLaTeX

LyX 2.4.4

MiKTeX 26.5

LG Andreas
