I finally got things going, mostly. Its taken me over a week and wish to share
for others:
tldr "somewhat working" version:Windows 11, LyX 2.5.1. You must use
lilypond-2.20.0-1.mingw.exe (on the lilypond site). Once installed, I added
";C:\Program Files (x86)\LilyPond\usr\bin" to the path in Lyx settings -> Paths
-> path prefix. Then run reconfigure, close and reopen.
Details: The download of the windows current version of Lilypond does not
include any installer, just unzip and go. I read that some people had to use
2.22.X to get it to work, but no luck. After changing both the paths in Lyx and
even the windows system path settings, I still had issues. I tried a few
2.21.0, 2.22.X and 2.23.0 versions with the same outcome. Some versions have
lilypond-book with no file extension, while others have it with .py.
Once I found 2.20.0-1 on the Lilypond site and installed, put in the path,
reconfig I did not have any errors going into the sample LilyPond guide, but
still had errors on rendering.
I went for MWE and tried the test on section 3.2.1 on the Lilypond site:
\begin{lilypond}[quote,fragment,staffsize=26]
c'4 d' e' f' g'2 g'
\end{lilypond}Each time with this example I get "Pango-CRITICAL **:
pango_fc_font_lock_face: assertion 'PANGO_IS_FC_FONT (font)' failed"
However, other examples do work:\lilypond[quote,fragment,staffsize=11]{<c' e'
g'>}
However the pango error still comes up on some other examples I find online,
while others work. Doing some digging, this command in Pango has been
deprecated.
If you have ideas or suggestions, please let me know. Also while the Lilypond
installer has python bundled with it, I do have it also installed. Not sure if
that changes much.
Thank you,Matt

Windows 11, Lyx 2.5.1.I have worked for days to get LilyPond working in Lyx
and use the example file. I have been able to get preview to work on screen,
just not output.
Everything I see online is it is just supposed to magically work when put
lilypond in the Lyx path and reconfigure. So far it does not.
Where I am at now: I have LilyPond 2.26.0 downloaded and python installed. I
added the path for lilypond\bin to my system path and in Lyx, did reconfigure
and still get the error asking for the lilypond-book->latex when opening the
example file. However preview does work, and I can run the conversion tests on
lilypond-book via command line and they pass as set on the Lilypond website.
To get the error to stop on opening the sample I added a converter for
lilypond-book(latex)->Latex(plain) and giving it a path like this:
$${python} C:\path\lilypond-2.26.0\bin\lilypond-book.py
$$iorC:\pathtopython\python.exe C:\path\lilypond-2.26.0\bin\lilypond-book.py
$$i
But this fails on export saying there was an error in running the command.
Ultimate goal is to put some music in a book with other text and export with
LuaTeX if possible.
Thank you for your time,Matt
