Hi Riki,

Thanks for your help.  You can probably tell that I'm new at this and I've used chatgpt for help.

I think the parIndent, Parskip and BottomSep only affect the edit window so I nopped them.

Yes, though they can be helpful in giving visual clues.

I think {} indicates title text string.

No, that is just nothing. Braces just bunch things. That bunches nothing, so it's nothing.

In an environment, you define two things: What happens before it starts, and what happens after it. What you want, I think, is:

Preamble

  \newenvironment{grammertitle}

      {\setlength{\parindent}{0pt}\vspace{1\baselineskip}}

      {\vspace{4\baselineskip}}

EndPreamble

The first line (stuff in paired braces) sets no indent and then says: Skip a line's worth of vertical space. The the contents of the environment (what you type in LyX) will appear. After that, there will be another skip of 4 lines.

In general, we have:

\newenvironment{newenvname}
    {STUFF THAT HAPPENS BEFORE}
    {STUFF THAT HAPPENS AFTER}

As Ehud suggested, if that all seems new, then I'd suggest something like this:

https://www.learnlatex.org/en/
https://latexguide.org/contents/

LaTeX is not that hard, but it does take some getting used to.
