I've got Mandrake 8.0 here, and I can see Greek letters (entered in Greek
mode, or math mode, which are really the same thing :) such as \alpha,
\Sigma, etc. Try changing your screen font via Edit -> Preferences -> Look &
Feel. (I have Lucidabright, Lucida, and Lucidatypewriter as mine and I like
this combination.)
I can see (so far) all the Greek and otherwise odd (no offense to any Greeks
reading :) characters in math, except for some boxes in math panels that
appear blank. (I know this has to do with my font paths in X, but it's a
minor annoyance since I don't use the math panels much -- I'd rather type
\rightarrow than click 3 or 4 times -- and my feeble efforts to fix it
haven't worked.)
