||In French and English the
||pronunciation of -y- behaves exactly as that of -i- (English tyre =
||American tire), and final -y is often pluralized -ies. (Ski as compared
||with sky is not an exception, since 'ski' is a recent borrowing.)
||Unfortunately, intrusive -y- is still an error in mediaeval manuscripts,
||no matter how cool it looks.

Just a slight comment on "y" in French, but completely irrelevant
to the "true" lyx pronunciation :
y doesn't behave exactly like i in French, especially when
it is the initial letter: no elision, no liaison
(except for a few words like "yeux", "hieble"), it
behaves somewhat like "hie-"
