sorry, should be:

\renewcommand\section{\@startsection {section}{1}{\z@}%
   {-3.25ex\@plus -1ex \@minus -.2ex}%
   {1.5ex \@plus .2ex}%
   {\centering\normalfont\Large\bfseries}}

or use package tocloft.
