Hi,
sorry for answering so late, I have been quite busy and LyX is still a sort
of hobby for me.
I solved my problem by generating LyX-1.1.6fix3-1 form the tgz source.
The standard installation cycle "tar / ./configure / make / make install" ran
perfectly.
Until now I did not have the time to try the other packages, they should
install with the "-U" option.
So my new LyX is running quite stable for two weeks now.
Sometimes LyX hangs like some other programs. I suppose this is more
a problem of the Caldera Opne LINUX 3.1 window manager.
Until now I could not solve that problem and stay waiting for the next
release of KDE 2 under COL 3.1.
Greetings from Munich (Germany)
Hellmut

Try to install them with
rpm -Uv <filename-of-package> 2>&1 >> ~/lyx-install.log
(in kvt, konzole, etc.) and tell us the results (i.e., send us the
lyx-install.log which you will have in your home directory).
Have a nice day
