I'm fairly new to LyX and I'm comfortable with the basic text features.
However, now I'm converting a paper I presented last year at a meeting into
LyX and I'm stuck on the few equations.

I know how to enter math mode, but I don't know how to have the equation
centered on the line. I've read through the appropriate sections of the
Users Guide but I cannot find the 'display' mode referenced in the Guide nor
any guidance for centering the formula.

The first one is simple: H' = pi log pi

The second one (which I've not yet played with) is: H (sub alpha) = (log
Sigma p (sub i/super alpha)) / (1 - alpha)

Of course, these are terribly simple once one has done a couple, but it's
all new to me and there's something in the manual that I'm missing.

A pointer or two would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich
